Adult Education Credential Project
The Credential Model is a statewide effort to develop a credential for adult educators based on accumulating points for attending approved professional development activities and writing a reflection explaining the impact of the activity in the teacher's classroom practice. Although this credential is not required for teaching adults in Texas, it is an attempt to recognize those teachers who have undergone a rigorous course of professional development and growth.
Eligibility
You must be a teacher of record for any adult education program funded by the Texas Education Agency. Your name must appear in the adult education statewide management system: TEAMS.
Steps to Obtain a Credential
-
Participate in a one-day orientation on the Credential Process. Due to low demand, there are currently no scheduled workshops. If you are interested in attending a credential orientation, please complete and submit the Credential Training Request form.
-
In order to keep track of your progress in your credential and submit reflections you need to obtain access to the CredITS system, complete the TEA SE application online, print it, and have your administrator sign it. Fax a copy of the completed application to Texas LEARNS for approval. Please note that this may take several weeks of processing.
-
Follow this link to access our listing of the Farwest GREAT center's activities and the credential point allocations as entered into CredITS.
-
Once you receive your TEA SE Account and password, you will be able to enter and request credit for trainings and workshops you have attended in the five (5) years prior to enrolling in the Credential process. You will need to write a reflection for each activity you submit based on a reflection rubric developed by the Credential Project. The reflection will be read by the Credential Project staff, and will either be accepted or returned for revisions.
-
Once you accumulate 150 points in the five (5) content areas you will receive your Adult Education Credential.
